Sōng Shān
Sōng Shān contains many important Taoist temples such as the Zhongyue Temple. That is one of earliest Taoist temples in the country. The sacred mountain also includes the Songyang Academy, one of the four great academies in ancient China.
Sōng Shān is in the center of the five sacred Taoist mountains, therefore it is especially venerated. It is said to have 72 peaks, and 72 different Taoist and Buddhist temples, and Confucian shrines. 72 is 8x9, the highest odd and even numbers and this is a symbol of completeness. These temples and shrines contain a grand collection of cultural relics, earning the entire area the reputation of "land of cultural relics."
