Worships
Taoists go to one of the temples scattered around China to worship ancestors or gods and goddesses. Several martial arts came out of some of the Taoist practices. These include Tai Chi, Chuan, Judo, Aikido, and Tae Kwon Do.
Basically there are two types of worship rituals. One is Idol worship, and the other is invisible spirit worship. The Idol worship uses statues of great gods and deities while invisible spirit worship uses spirit mediums who goes into a trance-like state.
Taoists worship the nine emperor gods in the Nine Emperor Gods Festival, which is nine days long. Devotees will often take on a vegetarian diet during this time, they do this to achieve ritual cleansing.
Before the Zhou Dynasty, the most common worship was to the gods. But once the Zhou Dynasty came to power, ancestor worship became more and more important. People still worshipped the old gods, but ancestor worship was more important. Taoism came around towards the end of the Zhou Dynasty, so even at the beginning of the religion, the concept of ancestor worship was a large part of the worship.
